Technologies and Design for Emancipatory Futures Forschungs-Mittwoch #177
Insights into the research field of ‘Social Design’
23.10.2024, 5.30pm–7pm – HKB, Auditorium, Fellerstrasse 11, 3027 Bern
Technologies and design shape, and are shaped by, societies. Still, tech and design products are often devised as individual solutions for collective problems. In this talk, María Menéndez-Blanco proposes questions that she confronts in her research:
- How can design and technologies shape emancipatory futures?
- How could emancipatory ways of designing look like?
María Menéndez-Blanco, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the Free University of Bolzano-Bozen (Italy). Her research focuses on how digital technologies can enable, or hinder, democratic participation processes. She investigates computing critically grounded on the bottom line that technologies are not neutral. In her work, she follows an action research approach to designing interactive installations and public events representing complex societal concerns.
