Computer Science thesis wins ISSS Excellence Award

On 10 January, the two graduates of the Bachelor in Computer Science received the ISSS Excellence Award for their thesis. The prize is awarded by Switzerland’s largest association of ICT security professionals and endowed with CHF 4,000. The winning bachelor’s thesis was voted by a jury of renowned representatives from various Swiss universities of applied sciences.

Simple and secure authentication with the SwissPass FIDO2 protocol

Thanks to the secure authentication protocol developed by Coralie Rohr and Dominic Baumann on behalf of SBB in their final thesis, the new SwissPass card with integrated FIDO2 authenticator is even simpler to use and more secure. To access a new service, all you need to do is briefly place your SwissPass card against an NFC reader and confirm your identity by SMS or e-mail.

Relying parties using the new protocol can reduce their operational costs as SwissPass users are able to use their services without prior registration.

Faithful to BFH

BFH equips its students with the tools they need to help shape the digital information world. But that is not all: the two award winners also benefit from an innovative and research-based working environment after graduation. Currently, Coralie Rohrer and Dominic Baumann are both working as assistants at the Institute for Data Applications and Security IDAS. The institute is managed by Prof. Dr Annett Laube, who also supervised their award-winning bachelor’s thesis: “Winning the ISSS Excellence Award demonstrates the alignment of the study contents with the current needs of the IT industry. We are delighted that the two winners have remained faithful to BFH after their graduation.”
