13.01.2025, 7.30pm–9.30pm – HKB, Grosser Konzertsaal, Papiermühlestrasse 13d, 3014 Bern

Playtime visual: Abstract picture in shades of blue, yellow and red

Luigi Nono would have been 100 years old in 2024. At the centre of the staged concert is his last composition Hay que caminar’ soñando from 1989. It is based on a poem by Antonio Machado. The sound oscillates between fragmentary pianissimi, tense intervals and isolated, strong accents. Nono strives for political justice; his idea of the ‘footprints’ of a composer is clear and reflects his quest for life to be a journey entwined with his sonorous dreams.

With an international group of composer-performers, we take this iconic piece as a starting point to explore our own sounding, dreaming and perception of a path to be travelled, even when the horizon is blurred. With Nono’s vocal composition ¿Donde estás hermano? and world premieres by the participants in response to Machado’s poem Caminante, no hay camino, our search will be made to resound and existential questions will begin to float in space.
