Playtime: Trafic Composition novelties

World premieres by composition students: colourful, multimedia, synchronised and varied.

14.01.2025, 6pm–10pm – HKB, Auditorium Ostermundigenstrasse 103, 3006 Bern

A young man dressed in black sits with a game controller in his hand in front of a series of numbers projected onto a screen.

In these three concerts the students of the Master in Composition / Creative Practice will present their artistic work of the past months. As we see how their languages are developing, we will also witness how artistic and stilistic plurality is part of this endeavor and how it represents a trademark of the HKB. The students not only rehearse and finalise their own pieces, they are also active as performers, technical assistants and coaches of each other’s projects. We will see different personalities and visions on contemporary creation that start from music and sound in the centre and extend, just like Trafic (thereby quoting Jacques Tati’s film and its poetic spirit). It’s three evenings full of Trafic with many turns, jams and diversions.

This collection of 22 works in three evenings traverses a wide array of musical expressions from purely acoustic – including sewing machines, tuning forks and cowbells – to immersive electroacoustic, visual and interactive experiences and we even meet the legendary Hutätä, a mythical Swiss character who abducts misbehaving children…
