Ecotones Collective MALM

For one summer, an interdisciplinary collective of four artists and scientists is meeting in Val Ferret to explore this Alpine valley – in particular its ecotones: transition zones between different ecosystems.

Starting from the concept of the border effect, or ecotone effect, the collective explores the particularities of contact zones at a geographical level, but also in their cultural, biological or social aspects. How do different species perceive spatial transition zones? What social and interspecific interactions take place there? How do these zones evolve?

By combining the visual arts, the natural sciences and ethnographic research, the members of MALM collective propose to conceive of ecotones as experimental laboratories, where they can observe, trace, bear witness to and transform their experience by making it tangible through sensitive means. Their encounters, their discoveries of places, legends and sounds that echo their interests and concerns will give rise to artistic proposals that will be presented at the Cabane B at the end of the residency.

Opening event: Tue, 21.9.2023, 6 p.m.
