Savour the flavours

04.06.2024 This week’s Culinary Journey is a tasty celebration of 30 Years of International Agriculture.

Nancy Bourgeois Lüthi, Head of International Agriculture at BFH-HAFL, says: “What a delicious way to celebrate 30 years of International Agriculture (IL) at BFH-HAFL! Thanks to Jerry and his team for helping us give you a little taste of what our BSc students experienced. I’m sad I won’t be able to join in – I’ll be working for the Swiss National FAO Committee (CNS-FAO) in Rome all week.”

2024 marks a very special milestone for BFH-HAFL’s BSc in Agriculture specialising in International Agriculture (IL) degree programme. And Jeremiah Omara and the Mensa team are totally onboard!

Leave your lunch at home and take part in the 30th anniversary festivities. From Tuesday to Thursday, treat yourself to the rich and diverse cuisines of India, Bolivia and Cameroon – the top three host nations for IL internships.

This special three-day food event provides a taste of the countries and cultures that have significantly influenced our degree programme’s history, which began in 1994 and is still going strong today.

Dishes include Bolivian peanut soup and cheese pucacapas; plantains with kale and black beans, and cassava dumplings from Cameroon; and Indian palak paneer and fish masala. Each day there are meals from the three countries, following the regular menu offering of one meat and two vegetarian/vegan dishes.

Posters in the Mensa entrance provide more information about the organisations our students have worked with on their internships and current projects of our colleagues in each country.

On Tuesday 11 June, the celebrations continue at the joint Annual Event, with the HAFL Hugo P. Cecchini Institute, which emphasises the importance of youth involvement in sustainable agriculture. The theme is “Building bridges and joining forces: engaging youth in shaping sustainable food systems and landscapes.”
