Situation

Until now, most companies have operated with linear business models: Raw materials are mined, products are manufactured, sold, consumed and thrown away. The result is a shortage of raw materials, increased emissions, large quantities of waste and the associated high environmental impact. It enables resources and energy flows to be slowed down, minimised and closed in order to preserve materials and products for as long as possible and with the highest possible value. The tool is deliberately designed to be low-threshold and is intended to make it easier for companies to enter or expand the circular economy.

Course of action

The Circularity Check is a free online tool developed specifically by BFH and the KOF Swiss Economic Institute at ETH Zurich. A short questionnaire of around 5 minutes serves as the basis, which records the current status of the company. This information will then be compared with the representative data for Switzerland and then show how far your company has progressed in the transformation process compared to other companies. This comparison is based on the approximately 9000 companies in the KOF Enterprise Panel, which is representative for Switzerland and which were surveyed in writing about their circular activities (response rate: 29.1 %).

Result

The survey is completely anonymous. The data entered will not be saved and will only be used for the actual comparison. The check is intended as an instrument for the self-assessment of companies. Due to the representativeness of the underlying comparative data, comparisons within Switzerland as well as within the sector and region are possible and the check is suitable for both companies that are still inexperienced in the circular economy and those that are already well advanced.
