Situation

To play an active role in ensuring modern obstetric care and to increase its attractiveness for women and families, the Lindenhof Group has decided to offer the ‘midwife-led birth’ model. The Lindenhof Group also wants to be an attractive employer for midwives and obstetricians by offering them the opportunity to work in an innovative care model. During a two-year pilot project, 30-50 midwife-led births are to be carried out at Lindenhof Hospital. The project will be scientifically supported by a BFH working group.

Course of action

Quantitative and qualitative data will be collected as part of the pilot study. Routinely collected demographic and medical data will be analysed. The degree of women's satisfaction with the new care model will be assessed using Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs). The International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM) standard set for pregnancy and childbirth will be used for this purpose. The Patient Reported Experience Measure (PREM) will be collected using the Lindenhof Group's standardised patient satisfaction questionnaire. In addition, interviews will be conducted with a sample of women. Employees are regularly surveyed on their satisfaction using an anonymous questionnaire.

Result

The results that are to be collected should permit valid statements to be made on the following topics: - Utilisation of the new care model by women and families - Outcome of mother and child - Parents' satisfaction with the new care model - Acceptance of the model by Lindenhof Group employees

Looking ahead

The findings from the pilot study are intended to show how the ‘midwife-led birth’ model affects the outcomes of the women and children cared for and how satisfied the women are with the care model. At the same time, staff satisfaction with the new care model will be surveyed. This will allow general recommendations to be formulated for the final implementation of the ‘Midwife-led birth’ project and specific adjustments to be made.
