Situation

SBB is developing the SBB eCharge service for charging electric vehicles for its customers. A key concern is to make the user experience intuitive and barrier-free. To this end, a concept was to be developed together with the SBB experts that not only guarantees secure and user-friendly authentication, but also ensures that the entire charging process runs smoothly. The concept had to take into account the existing SwissPass infrastructure and the technologies used by SBB and third-party providers.

Course of action

The first step in the project was to develop concrete user scenarios from the perspective of SBB customers. These scenarios formed the basis for a detailed analysis of the current SBB products and charging infrastructure with their common technologies (OCPP and OCPI). The results were used to develop a comprehensive implementation concept. A particular focus was placed on the virtualization of the SwissPass card. The aim here was to create a secure and convenient Tap&Go experience on mobile devices.

Result

The implementation concept developed enables simple and efficient integration of SBB eCharge into SBB's existing infrastructure without compromising on security. It offers customers an intuitive and simple user experience. By virtualizing the SwissPass, they can switch flexibly between the physical SwissPass card, their cell phone and the app.
