Queer Spaces - A Collective Inquiry across Times and Contexts (BSS1203.37)

We will explore ‘queer space’—a theoretical framework and practical intervention. Queer spaces challenge oppressive power structures related to (hetero-)normativity. Through readings and media, we’ll delve into queer spatialities across sociocultural and historical contexts. From New York City during the ‘AIDS crisis’ to post-colonial Mumbai and Berne during the 1980s youth unrests, we’ll engage with performativity, gentrification, migration, and more. By critically examining queer space, we’ll shape our perspectives for future social work practice.
