Situation
This ‘innovation partnership’ project is nicely embedded in the framework of an impactful development-cooperation initiative being implemented in Philippines. This public-private partnership (PPP) initiative known by its acronym ‘Going Bananas’ aims at restoring livelihoods of conflict affected farmers in the province of Cotabato in the Philippines. The PPP project is progressing well towards fulfillment of its objectives, however, the absence of a suitable market channel has emerged as a major bottleneck. So far, the products originating from the project area are primarily targeted at local markets in Asia. These premium organic products have a tremendous potential in the Swiss and European markets. By suitably tailoring the products to the needs of the target consumers in the Swiss and European markets, a substantial contribution to the livelihoods of hardworking smallholder farming families in the project region could be made. At the same time, it could offer nutritious and interesting options for the consumers, first in Switzerland and eventually in Europe.
Approche
This project is aimed at addressing the above-mentioned challenge by developing innovative products originating from the project area in the Philippines for Swiss and European consumers.
