Companies are subject to numerous, dynamic influences. Our workplaces are becoming increasingly complex and our daily work routines seem to be ever accelerating. In order to cope with this, it is vital to have a personnel policy which successfully supports the strategic development of your company. Both flexibility and stabilisation are equally important: on the one hand in the competition for skilled workers and talents, on the other hand in the reorientation of your workforce to dynamic competitive conditions. 

The CAS Human Resource Managment – Advanced (formerly CAS Human Resource Development) focusses on the following topics. 

  • HR policy development: objectives, regulatory areas, ethics and sustainability. 

  • International human resource management: strategies, intercultural competencies, talent management, HR marketing and employer branding. 

  • People analytics: data analysis, analysis strategies, interpretation and consulting. 

  • HR workshop: HR as an impulse generator for transformation in companies. 

Training objective

Make a contribution to the strategic development of your company. Upon completion of this CAS you will be in a position to provide holistic HR support for your company’s strategic developments. Following this course you will  

  • be familiar with the important regulatory aspects of HR policy  

  • be able to develop and support transformation processes. 

  • be able to make data-based decisions and thus make an active contribution to the company's personnel planning strategy. 

  • have a deeper understanding of the requirements of intercultural cooperation and are able to develop HR processes for companies operating both inter- and transnationally. 

This work-study CAS focusses on the strategy, methods and systems of human resource management. 

This course is divided into four modules. If places are available, the modules can be taken individually. However, to obtain the CAS, all four modules must be taken. 

In addition to attending classroom lectures, a module also includes supervised self-study phases, which allows you to fit your study around your professional commitments. 

Modul 1: HR Policy Development 

  •   HR policy (objectives, regulatory areas and communication), ethics and sustainability in HR management. 
  • Artificial intelligence in HR: opportunities for use and ethical aspects of intelligent technologies in HR. 

Module 2: International Human Resource Management 

  •  Internationalisation strategies from an HR perspective, governance of HR processes. 
  • Develop and promote intercultural skills, cross-cultural training, talent management. 

  • HR marketing, employer branding. 

Module 3: People Analytics 

  • Introduction people analytics: basic understanding, goals and requirements. 

  • HR information systems and data (HR Tech), software solutions, data preparation, small data/big data. 

  • Transforming workforces: data analysis, analysis strategies, interpretation and consulting. 

Module 4: HR Workshop 

  •  HR as an impulse generator for transformation in the company. Looking at the needs, goals and areas of action. 

Combining attendance and self-study phases to increase value.

In order to get the most out of each module, an individual, preparatory examination of the contents of a module is advantageous. With MS Teams, students and teachers are in contact even during the self-study phases. You are able to exchange information, clarify questions and share your work from preparation or follow-up assignments.s.

Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) der Berner Fachhochschule in «Human Resource Management – Advanced» (12 ECTS-Credits)

Lecturers

Our lecturers are proven experts with extensive practical and theoretical knowledge in their subject areas. They have at least a university degree plus many years of experience in higher education. 

Requirements + Admission

The CAS is aimed at specialists and managers with professional backgrounds in the following areas: 

  • Human Resource Management 

  • Personnel and organisational development 

  • Corporate Development 

  • Innovation and change management 

  • Management consultancy 

University degree

You will be admitted to the programme with a degree from a university, university of applied sciences, university of teacher education, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, or an equivalent foreign university and at least two years of professional experience.

Higher vocational training

If you have a qualification from a higher vocational education institution (Diploma Höhere Fachschule HF, Federal Diploma, Federal Certificate of Proficiency) and several years of professional experience, you will also be admitted to the programme. However, you will be required to attend our Introduction to Academic Study before starting the CAS. Completion of this module is a prerequisite for admission to the CAS.

Exceptions

In exceptional circumstances applicants may still  be admitted. The head of the degree programme will make a decision based upon your application and extenuating circumstances. Please contact us. If you are admitted, you will in any case attend the course «Introduction to Academic Writing» (in German) before the first CAS.

Professional requirements

At least two years of professional experience in a relevant subject area of the CAS are required.
For clarification of individual professional requirements, the Director of Studies is available for personal advice.

Language skills

The language of instruction is German. To a lesser extent, English language teaching materials can be used.

For all students of our CAS programmes we offer a half-day course Effective Learning. Attendance is recommended and is free of charge for CAS students. At this event, you will learn about the practice-oriented learning style used at universities of applied science.

Organisation + Registration

The duration of the programme is 21 study days. Further details on dates and teaching days will follow half a year before the start of the programme.

Organisational aspects of the CAS

15 study days (plus time spent on preparation, follow-up work and writing the thesis). 

The registration deadline for the programme is 6 weeks before the start. If places are available, later registration is possible.
