Prof. Dr. Stefan Schmid Stv. Leiter aF&E Physiotherapie

Prof. Schmid began his academic journey with a degree in Physiotherapy in 2005, followed by an MA in Pathokinesiology from New York University in 2009, and a PhD in Biomechanics from ETH Zurich in 2016. In 2019, he completed his postdoctoral research fellowship at Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and was appointed Senior Lecturer at the Bern University of Applied Sciences. In 2021, Prof. Schmid achieved habilitation in experimental medicine and became additionally a lecturer (Privatdozent) at the University of Basel. In 2024, he was appointed Professor at the Bern University of Applied Sciences, where he currently serves as Head of the Spinal Movement Biomechanics Group and Deputy Head of Research at the Division of Physiotherapy. In addition, he serves as Associate Editor for the journals "Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology" and "Archives in Physiotherapy" and as an ad hoc reviewer for various academic journals. To this date, his research is published in over 45 peer-reviewed scientific journal articles as well as close to 70 peer-reviewed congress abstracts.
