Content + Structure

Modern and goal-orientated. This specialist course meets a current need, as the IAS/IFRS accounting standards dominate all areas of finance and accounting in many companies. Bern University of Applied Sciences is offering this continuing education course in accounting in cooperation with the ACCOVALIST Institute for Accounting & Finance SE. The course will comprise prior self-study of ten learning material units, five attendance days and one (voluntary) examination day. 

Training objective

You will acquire comprehensive and practice-orientated knowledge of accounting in compliance with IAS/IFRS. You will have ten weeks time for self-study of the course materials - in this phase you will be able to determine your own pace of learning. During the attendance days you will deepen your new knowledge on the basis of practical situations and case studies. You will be able to prepare for the final examination on the last day of the second attendance phase in an empathic atmosphere. After passing the exam, you will receive a recognised qualification certificate that will document your sound practical knowledge. 

  • Principles of international accounting 

  • Intangible assets and impairment test 

  • Property, plant and equipment, investment properties and leases 

  • Non-current assets held for sale and discontinued operations, inventories and construction contracts 

  • Financial instruments and currency conversion 

  • Provisions and liabilities 

  • Equity and consolidated statement of comprehensive income 

  • Income tax and cash flow statement 

  • Annex reporting and interim reporting 

  • Group accounting in accordance with IFRS 

  • Preparatory studies using ten learning material units (to be provided from December 2020)

Requirements and Admission

This continuing education course in accounting is designed for those already working with the IFRS accounting standard or who would like to work in this field.

Admission requirements

You do not need to meet any specific admission requirements to participate in this extra-occupational course. However, prior knowledge of IFRS accounting is required. If you have any questions, please contact the director of studies directly.

Professional requirements

Knowledge of accounting in accordance with the Swiss Code of Obligations (OR).

Knowledge and skills

You will be familiar with financial reporting in accordance with IFRS.

Work on previously issued course material up to the time of attendance lessons.
