Doctor of Nursing Practice
This doctoral program is a collaborative initiative that was established in 2020 with US partner institutions to provide continued career opportunities for nurses with a Master of Science in Nursing degree or with a Master of Science in Healthcare Leadership. The students are completing their studies with the title “Doctor of Nursing Practice” (DNP).
The doctoral program emphasizes evidence-based clinical practice, preparing advanced practice nurses to operate at a doctoral level within clinical settings To handle highly complex patient situations based on evidence. The program supports nurses in developing a doctoral project aimed at implementing and evaluating evidence-based practices within their respective clinical environments. The courses are primarily offered online, with participation available in Western European Time (WET).
Doctoral projects are conducted within the research domains of the Department of Nursing of the BUAS, tailored to each candidate’s topic, and are carried out in healthcare institutions in Switzerland. Thus, all projects are centered on implementing evidence-based interventions to address health issues across diverse populations, with the goal of integrating current evidence into clinical practice to advance clinical practice.
The doctoral project culminates in a written thesis describing an evidence-based practice process, detailing the steps of defining, implementing, and evaluating a specific healthcare intervention. The focus is on the procedural and outcome aspects of the project.
The program, which is in English, consists of various online semester courses offered by the partner university. Supervision within the project is provided by BUAS. The supervision focuses on role development and support for the doctoral project, providing students with opportunities to discuss theoretical, methodological, and practical challenges they encounter. Doctoral candidates are expected to present their projects at national and international conferences.
The costs depend on the courses one needs to take and are charged per credit hour. The total cost for the full program is approximately $25,000-30,000.
Doctoral projects at BUAS require employment at BUAS with a doctoral student salary.
