Situation
The terminology thus used is often interpreted in different ways, while the lack of any standard nomenclature makes for even less clarity in a multilingual context. A multilingual, illustrated catalogue of terminology is being developed, based on the opinions of international experts. The published results should serve above and beyond the realm of conservation and restoration as a standard reference and teaching aid. The catalogue’s structure, procedures and content are a fundamental aspect of this project, which is to be pursued further. It is currently limited to German and English terms used in paper conservation. Follow-up projects will be expanded in collaboration with the Swiss and European standards institutions (SNV and CEN).
