Situation
The aim of the project is to support a biotech research aiming at developing new cassava varieties resistant to CMD/whitefly, by socio-economic investigation on aspects relevant to technology transfer, product development, public acceptance, adoption by end users.
Course of action
The project consists in a socio-economic investigation on aspects relevant to adoption and acceptance of cassava new varieties, CMD/Whitefly resistant (genetically modified or not). The research addresses the cassava planting material system, the importance of cassava in the cropping system and in the farmers' income generation/food security in the cassava production areas in Tamil Nadu, as well as the value chain development of derived products and stakeholders' interaction.
