Healthcare and Personnel Development innovation field

Our research revolves around the sustainable, needs-oriented development of healthcare. We are particularly interested in developing new, innovative care models.

The Swiss healthcare system is facing the major challenge of ensuring healthcare professionals have access to efficient, modern working conditions. This includes offering long-term prospects for health professionals so they can remain healthy and fulfilled over the course of their careers. Innovative care models offer effective solutions for new roles and teamwork.

Research topics

Our research focuses on five different areas. One strategic focus area concerns the topic of advanced-practice roles in nursing.

  • Work organisation in nursing
  • Organisational development and culture in nursing and interprofessional fields
  • Occupational health management in nursing
  • New care models focused on care in an interprofessional context

 

We support and evaluate projects that implement advanced practice roles in GP practices, care homes and hospitals. In Switzerland, advanced practice roles have already been established in non-medical healthcare professions for several years. Healthcare professionals in advanced practice roles have a Master of Science and therefore have in-depth scientific and professional expertise. These enable them to make complex decisions and act with more autonomy and clinical responsibility, but also with more accountability.

Our research helps to determine the impact and potential of advanced practice roles in healthcare. In this way, we contribute to the sustainable development of healthcare.
