Situation

The ‘Open Source Study Switzerland 2024’ offers a comprehensive overview of current trends and developments in the field of open source software in Switzerland, as well as background information on its distribution, economic benefits, choice of licence and business models.

Course of action

The survey of over 175 companies and administrations highlights areas of application, advantages and obstacles to the use of open source software and examines the reasons for releasing open source software. The study also contains numerous specialist articles and practical examples from various sectors, as well as a directory of open source providers and other stakeholders. The Open Source Study Switzerland 2024 was published by the CH Open and swissICT associations and prepared by the Institute for Public Sector Transformation at the Bern University of Applied Sciences.

Result

The Open Source Study 2024 shows that the importance of open source software has increased over the last three years. At the same time, its use has remained stable at a high level, with practically all respondents (96.6%) using open source software in some area.
